Our Mission Needs Your Support Now

Our mission is to accelerate protection for the vulnerable wildlife of the Arctic Ocean and its northernmost North Pole region.

The Arctic Ocean's sea-ice cover has provided both a unique habitat for wildlife and a natural barrier to surface vessels. But as the sea ice continues to melt away due to global warming, commercial vessels are now exploiting these waters for the first time in human history.

The conservation measures 90 North Foundation advances will minimise the impacts, stressors and risks caused by vessels that compromise the survival, health and abundance of the region's native and migrating non-native species.

By minimising the acoustic, chemical, biological and physical risks generated by vessels, the capacity of these animals to adapt, survive and thrive in the world’s fastest-changing ocean environment can be optimised.

And the beneficiaries of your support for our work?

Polar Bear Narwhal, Beluga, Blue Whale, Bowhead Whale, Gray Whale, Pacific Walrus, Atlantic Walrus, Arctic seal species -Bearded, Ribbon, Hooded, Spotted, Harp and Ringed - and the many fish and smaller wildlife species under-pinning the region’s delicately-balanced food web.

The reality is your support helps to stabilise and maintain the region’s unique biodiversity and the life-supporting services they provide all life around the world … including us.

To achieve our mission, 90 North Foundation's strategy is:

  • To generate scientific research, analyses and insights about the region’s wildlife and ecosystem services that inform the development of conservation measures
  • To deliver educational resources for schools and universities, and awareness programmes for the wider public that advance understanding of the rationale behind the conservation effort
  • To advocate for appropriate conservation measures within the relevant biodiversity policy-making communities
